REDEMPTION POST

Big hello to all humans (and aliens) who follow this blog. Yes, yes, I'm still alive, thank you :P

I know it's been a very long time since my last post and that you guys have probably forgotten the fact that even exist, BUT... this is me trying to make it up to you, so here is my redemption post. These are a few illustrations that I made for a local graphic design studio called Creative Family.

I hope you people can forgive my absence, I'm so sorry for the lack of comments in your amazing blogs :( I have been crazy busy lately and time to blog is something that I'm finding a little hard to get, BUT... hopefully things will settle dow soon and in no time I will stalk you all with non stop comments. MISS YOU ALL TO DEATH! Do you still love me? lol

Saudações calorosas para todos os humanos (e não só) que acompanham este blog. Sim, sim, ainda estou vivo, obrigadinho :P

Eu sei que já lá vai um tempo desde o meu último post e que vocês provavelmente já não se lembram que eu existo, MAS... para me redimir, aqui vai um post fresquinho de compensação, com algumas ilustrações que fiz para uma empresa local de design gráfico chamada Creative Family. Espero que possam perdoar a minha ausência prolongada da blogosfera e a abstinência de comentários nos vossos blogs fantásticos :( mas é que tenho andado mais ocupado do que uma formiga histérica no inverno, e tempo para "blogar" é coisinha que definitivamente não tem havido. Assim que as coisas acalmarem prometo perseguir-vos até já não me poderem ver com tanto comentário. TENHO SAUDADES VOSSAS!! ainda gostam de mim? lol

TASCHEN CALENDAR (Illustration Now!)

Hello blogger world! As some of you may remember, last year I was selected as one of the artists whose work was featured in TASCHEN's book ILLUSTRATION NOW! volume 3.

This year, to promote the book TASCHEN published "Illustration Now!" diaries and calendars. Once again I had the honor to have my work chosen to be featured in the 2011 calendar.

I always loved TASCHEN, - my bedroom shelfs are filled with their books on illustration, graphic design, photography and advertisement. I always thought that TASCHEN was synonymous of excellence, glamour and good taste, so I'm very happy to have my work associated with them.

Many thanks to julius Wiedemann for being always so thoughtful and for treating artists with such concern and respect.

Saudações blogosfera! Como alguns de vós talvez se lembrem, o meu trabalho foi seleccionado para ser exibido no livro ILLUSTRATION NOW! 3 da editora TASCHEN que chegou às livrarias no final do ano passado.

Este ano, para promover o livro na altura do Natal, a TASCHEN decidiu lançar no mercado alguns materiais promocionais do livro, nomeadamente, agendas, cadernos e calendários. Mais uma vez, tive a honra de ser um dos artistas escolhidos para o calendário de 2011.

Sempre gostei muito desta editora - as estantes do meu quarto estão a abarrotar com livros da TASCHEN sobre ilustração, design gráfico, fotografia e publicidade. Para mim, esta editora sempre foi sinónimo de excelência, qualidade, requinte, glamour e bom gosto, por essa razão é um prazer ver o meu trabalho associado com eles.

Um grande abraço de agradecimento ao Julius Wiedemann pela sua constante atenciosidade e por tratar os artistas com tanta consideração e respeito.

UMBIGO MAGAZINE #33

Hey humans! I've been working with this really classy Portuguese magazine named UMBIGO for 2 issues now, and I'm totally loving it. This time I made 2 illustrations for the cloth section called "Closet". Hope You guys like them :)

With this Issue, UMBIGO celebrates it's 8th year of existence and they wanted to dedicate the "Staff" section of the magazine to the creative department. I have to thank Andre Semedo - UMBIGO's Art Director- for inviting me to take part in this issue's "Staff section" as one of the featured artists. Andre, if you're reading this - thanks a lot man! :)

Olá seres humanos! Tenho vindo a colaborar com a revista UMBIGO nos seus dois últimos números e posso dizer quer que estou a adorar! Desta vez ilustrei a secção de roupas e acessórios que leva o nome de "Closet". Espero que gostem :)

Com este número, a UMBIGO celebra o seu oitavo aniversário e a redacção quis dedicar a secção "Staff" ao departamento criativo e à equipa de designer/ilustradores que colabora frequentemente com a revista. Aproveito para agradecer ao Andre Semedo - o Director Artístico da UMBIGO, pelo convite para participar no "Staff" desta edição.

APOLLO MODELS MAG.

Hey bloggers! I was invited by the editor of a fashion magazine from Miami, to showcase my work in it's Spring/summer 2010 Edition. This publication is called Apollo Modells, and it focuses on the positive image of man through fitness, fashion, arts, films and entertainment.

This illustration is from my new GENESIS series, and I called it: "Seriously?? superpowers and everything?". I had a great time doing this one.

Boys, I'm posting a sequel soon - with an Eve, just for you guys! :P

Olá amigos blogueiros! Fui convidado pelo editor de uma revista de moda de Miami, para incluir um trabalho meu na sua edição de Pimavera/verão 2010. Esta publicação chama-se Apollo Models e é uma revista que se focaliza na imagem positiva dos homens através da moda, fitness, arte, cinema e entretenimento.

Esta ilustração pertence à minha nova série GÉNESIS, e o seu título é: "Seriously? superpowers and everything?". Diverti-me bastante durante a sua concepção.
Rapazes...vou postar dentro em breve uma sequela...que envolve uma eva - Só para vocês! :P

JULIET MARILLIER/GOOD READING MAGAZINE

Hello everybody! I had the honor and great pleasure of having my work associated with one of my favorite writers ever. JULIET MARILLIER (an internationally acclaimed author from New Zeland, currently based in Australia), contacted me with a request to use an illustration that I made for Offf Oeiras 2009’s catalogue (Wonderland), to illustrate an article about her work in Good Reading Magazine (a high quality book review Australian magazine with articles about books and writers). I’ve read all her books and I’m always looking forward to the next masterpiece that she’ll come up with. Juliet writes epic fantasy novels and I believe that our creative universes are very similar. It was great to see my work in her article! :)

Olá pessoal! Tive o prazer de ver o meu trabalho associado com uma das minhas escritoras preferidas. JULIET MARILLIER (Uma autora neozelandesa internacionalmente aclamada), contactou-me com um pedido para lhe conceder a minha ilustração Wonderland (que criei inicialmente para o catálogo do Offf Oeiras 2009), para ilustrar um artigo que escreveu acerca do seu trabalho para a revista Australiana Good Reading (uma publicação de alta qualidade de críticas literárias, com artigos sobre livros e escritores). Já li todos os livros desta autora até à data, e estou sempre na expectativa de saber qual será a sua próxima criação. A Juliet escreve sobretudo romances épicos de fantasia, que assentam em factos históricos. Penso que os nossos universos criativos são muito semelhantes. Foi muito bom ver o meu trabalho no seu artigo! :)

ILLUSTRATION NOW! 3 (TASCHEN)

I had the honour of being invited by TASCHEN to participate in the 3rd volume of the book Illustration Now! that presents an amazing selection of work by 150 of the world's greatest illustrators from 30 countries. This dazzling book is a Julius Wiedemann edition.

Olá amigos, como tem passado? Espero que estejam todos bem.

Tive a honra de ser convidado pela TASCHEN para participar no 3º volume do livro Illustration Now! que apresenta uma magnífica selecção de trabalhos realizados por 150 dos mais promissores ilustradores provinientes de 30 países. Este livro fantástico é uma edição de Julius Wiedemann.

THE MOON DANCER

(...) In that moment the princess knew that the only way to break the spell that turned her sisters into stone, was to call upon the forces of the Other Realm. It was time. The strange stone necklace that the wise woman gave her the other day by the river was glowing. She was told only to use it when the time was right. The woman warned her that it was very powerful and should not be used unless it was an hour of despair. Well…that was definitely the case.
She started to say the magic words and began to perform the Moon dance that would open the gates between her world and the other.
As she was dancing, a strong wind started to blow, whipping her long golden hair. Help was on its way (...)

(...) Naquele momento a princesa soube que a única forma de quebrar o feitiço que transformara as suas irmãs em pedra, seria invocar as forças do Outro Reino. Chegara a hora. O estranho colar de pedra da lua que a sábia anciã lhe dera no outro dia, quando se encontrava nas margens do rio, começara a brilhar. Só deveria ser usado na altura certa, dissera-lhe a mulher. Avisara-a de que era muito poderoso e que não deveria ser usado a não ser numa hora de desespero. Bem…era certamente esse o caso.
A princesa começou a proferir as palavras mágicas e iniciou a dança da lua que abriria o portal entre o seu mundo e o outro.
Enquanto rodopiava, levantou-se um vento forte que açoitava os seus longos cabelos dourados. Ajuda vinha a caminho (...)

WONDERLAND

Hello friends! I know that it's been a while since my las post, but I’ve finally got some time for an update, so here's something fresh new...
Besides ancient miths and legends, fairytales and science fiction storys, I have always been inspired by Nature. This piece is a window to the world I used to live in when I was a kid (I stil do, actualy! :P). I've just finished it...hope you like it!

Olá Amigos! Eu sei que já lá vai algum tempo desde o meu último post, mas finalmente consegui arranjar tempo para actualizar o blog. Aqui vai uma ilustração novinha em folha...
Além das lendas e mitos antigos, contos de fadas e histórias de ficção científica, a Natureza sempre me inspirou. Este trabalho é uma janela para o mundo em que vivia quando era criança (e onde ainda vivo para dizer a verdade! :P). Acabei a ilustração agora mesmo...espero que gostem.

THE MUSHROOM FAIRY

In some special places that still preserve some of the ancient magic, where the trees are old and wise, improbable things can still happen. If you look closely, you might see them. Behind a sacred tree or a magic stone, near a mushroom ring or a deep lake in the forest…if you seek for them in a misty day or after the rain, you might as well find one or two. Although that seems possible... it is also rather unlikely.

Em alguns lugares especiais que ainda preservam alguma da antiga magia, onde as árvores são velhas e sábias, coisas improváveis podem ainda acontecer. Se se procurar cuidadosamente, elas podem ser vistas. Atrás de uma árvore sagrada ou de um penedo mágico, nas proximidades de um anel de cogumelos ou de um lago profundo na orla da floresta…quando se procura por elas num dia brumoso ou depois da chuva cair, é possível avistar uma ou duas. Apesar de ser possível...é também altamente improvável.

STAR SAILOR

(…) The pale and supernatural light of the moon bathed her face. Her long hair reflected the moonlight, glistening with splendor, as if it was made of silver strings. The stunning melody that seemed to come from the moon, wouldn´t stop, calling and attracting her like a charming spell.
- “Come little sister…” – Whispered a strange voice in her ear.

Suddenly, the girl was no longer at the window, in the silence of her room. Clouds were kissing her skin, and a fresh breeze swept through her hair. She was now sailing at the will of the moon flows. Star tides waved as she was passing by, and the girl felt the magic scent of the night (…)

(…) A luminosidade pálida e sobrenatural do luar banhava-lhe o rosto. Os seus longos cabelos reflectiam a luz, refulgindo esplendorosamente como se de fios de prata se tratassem. Aquela melodia estonteante que parecia emanar da lua, insistia em não cessar, enfeitiçando-a, chamando-a.
- “Vem irmãzinha…”- sussurrava-lhe ao ouvido uma voz estranha.

Subitamente, a menina já não se encontrava à janela, no silêncio do seu quarto. Nuvens beijavam-lhe a pele, uma brisa fresca agitava-lhe os cabelos. Navegava agora ao sabor das correntes lunares. Marés de estrelas ondulavam à sua passagem e a menina sentia o perfume mágico da noite (…)

UNDERWORLD

(...) As the concousness gave in to the strong presence of the slumber, strange aquatic images invaded her room. There, In the half light, the shadows formed by the flickering light of the moon coming in from the window, assumed liquid forms that waved softly. The suddent glitter of a scale, or the swift movement of a fin reminded her that she was not alone. The gentle sway of the waves lulled her, and the girl finally fell into a deep sleep (...)

...) À medida que a consciência sucumbia à voluntariosa presença do sono, estranhas imagens aquáticas invadiam o seu quarto. Ali, na penumbra, as sombras formadas pela bruxuleante luz do luar que entrava pela janela, assumiam formas líquidas, que ondulavam suavemente. O súbito brilhar de uma escama, ou o rápido movimento de uma barbatana diziam-lhe que não se encontrava sozinha. O doce balançar das ondas embalava-a, e a menina mergulhou finalmente num sono profundo (...)
