EGOÍSTA MAGAZINE #47 (Legends on the Wall)

Hello blogger buddies! Hope you are all doing great. I miss commenting your blogs and reading your lovely comments in mine, but by life has been more of a mess that the usual, so... I'm just trying to catch my breath :P

For the first time, something that I wrote was published - and in one of the few top quality Portuguese magazines on art and culture. Egoísta magazine published a full 8 page aticle completely written and illustrated by me. I have to thank Patrícia Reis - Egoísta's Editor in Chief for believing in my work enough to publish it.

LEGENDS ON THE WALL: This project consists in a series of artistic panels inspired by the mural paintings of the Renaissance, Baroque and Pre-Raphaelite periods.

work process: I photographed the models myself, then worked on the photos in Adobe Photoshop, doing both post-production work and digital painting + photo-illustration.

This project was published in EGOÍSTA MAGAZINE issue #47
EGOÍSTA is one of the best Portuguese print magazines on art and culture and it is owned by Estoril Sol Group.

Olá amigos blogueiros! Espero que estejam todos bem...
Pela primeira vez, alguns textos escritos por mim foram publicados - e anda por cima numa das revistas de melhor qualidade no âmbito das artes e cultura. A revista Egoísta, propriedade do grupo Estoril Sol, publicou um artigo de 8 páginas totalmente escrito e ilustrado por mim. Um muito obrigado à Editora da Egoísta, Patrícia Reis, por ter acreditado suficientemente no meu trabalho a ponto de o publicar.

LEGENDS ON THE WALL: este projecto consiste numa série de painéis inspirados nos frescos renascentistas e nas pinturas de mural dos períodos Pré-Rafaelita e Barroco.

A graphic ode to the myths / Uma ode gráfica aos mitos

DIONYSUS´S VINEYARD

The ancient myths tell of a major figure amongst the Greek civilization, that held a great portion of power. Dionysus, also known by his roman name Bacchus, was the Greek god of wine, and he represented it´s intoxicating power. He was said to be the Liberator, freeing one from one's normal self, by madness and ecstasy. The divine mission of Dionysus was to bring all worries to an end, through physical or spiritual intoxication. He was also the patron god of the Greek stage, agriculture, and fertility.
Dionysus often seems to stand somewhere between male and female, between god and man, between death and life. He is a force of chaos and destruction. His worship involved celebration of nature, orgiastic passion, dissolution of all boundaries, loss of one´s identity by wearing a mask.

Os velhos mitos falam de uma grande figura da Grécia antiga que sustentava uma grande parcela de poder. Dionísio, também conhecido pelo seu nome romano Baco, era o deus grego do vinho, e representava o seu poder intoxicante. Falava-se dele como sendo o Libertador, soltando as consciências do seu estado habitual através da loucura e do êxtase. A divina missão de Dionísio era por termo a todas as preocupações através de intoxicação física ou espiritual. Era também o deus patrono do teatro, da agricultura e da fertilidade. A personagem Dionísio carrega em si uma dualidade notável, encontrando-se sempre entre a masculinidade e a feminidade, entre a divindade e a humanidade, entre a vida e a morte. Ele é uma força destrutiva, associada ao caos. O seu culto está associado à música do ditirambo e envolvia a celebração da natureza, paixão de ímpeto orgiástico, dissolução de todas as barreiras através de um furor dionisíaco, e a perda da identidade pessoal através do uso de máscaras.
